ACCEPTING NEW CLIENTS

Rae is an individual and couples therapist who offers therapy sessions for adults (18+) who live in Baltimore and the surrounding area and are struggling with and/or can relate to:

  • LGBTQIA+ IDENTITY AND AFFIRMATION

  • CREATIVES AND PERFORMING ARTISTS

  • NEURODIVERGENCE

  • LDS (MORMON) RELIGIOUS DECONSTRUCTION

  • PROFESSORS, EDUCATORS, HEALTHCARE PROFESSIONALS

  • TRAUMA / POST TRAUMATIC GROWTH

  • LIFE AND CAREER TRANSITIONS

  • ANXIETY AND DEPRESSION

  • COUPLES WORK (PACT)

I am a creative, queer, neurodivergent therapist who is LGBTQIA+ affirming and dedicated to working with artists of all kinds. With a background rich in the performing arts, I am aware of the specific mental and emotional trauma and struggles that are often associated with creative work. Additionally, I have experience working in university and healthcare settings, and hold deep empathy for the particular struggles encountered in these environments as well. Often my work is centered around identity, including the different parts of you that may be wounded, need cared for, and are calling out for growth.

Curiosity, empathy, and creativity are the main things I bring into our therapeutic relationship. I am innately curious about people. It is my belief that each person has their own story which is influenced by their experiences, culture, background, and an array of multi-dimensional components. Throughout sessions, we will utilize an integrated therapy model to empower the exploration of emotions, thoughts, and experiences that impact you. I believe in creating an empathetic and authentic space where you can show up as you are. It is truly an honor to sit with you as your story unfolds.

Relationships can be rewarding, messy, sexy, joyful, and…complicated. Whether you are sorting through big life changes or everyday challenges, the support of a couples counselor can contribute to finding security and stability within your evolving relationship. I believe that each relationship, like each individual, is unique, and therefore requires a multidimensional therapeutic approach. In our sessions I will support empathy, honesty, and encourage you to step up as an expert on your partnership. Together, we can tackle issues of communication, boundary setting, emotional expression, and hold space to process challenges and trauma.

I am supportive of multiple relationship dynamics, including LGBTQIA+, polyamorous, CNM, and monogamous couples. I often work with people who are childfree by choice/dual income no kids, but also support partners with children. I have unique knowledge of dual dynamics in relationships, including working with or running businesses with a partner. Finally, I love working with neurodivergent people and am happy to explore how neurodivergence shows up in your relationship dynamic.

Your counseling services may be eligible for reimbursement through out-of-network benefits, medical spending (FSA's) or health care savings accounts (HSA's). Health insurance plans and benefits vary. If you are interested in using your health insurance, please call your insurance provider to inquire about reimbursement for out-of-network counseling services.

Outside of the Office

Rae is a human of many interests, invested in cultivating creativity throughout her life. Currently, this involves trying to keep three fiddle-leaf figs thriving, remodeling a home, and listening to astrology podcasts. When not working with clients, Rae is likely deep-diving into her latest theatre project, reading tarot cards, or trash-talking during a board game. Most of the time, however, she is perfectly content to sip a London Fog while cuddling her adorable cats, Soso and Pip.

TELL ME ABOUT FEES AND INSURANCE?

Rae’s individual fee is $175 per 60-minute intake session and 45-minute follow-up session; $275 for 2 hour couples intake session and 90-minute couples follow-up session.

SBCS is not paneled with any insurance plans but can offer you what's called "out-of-network benefits" (OONB). Not everyone has this as part of their benefits package, so please call your healthcare plan and ask these questions:

Do I have out-of-network benefits?
What percentage of my therapist's fee does my plan pay for?

MOST OON BENEFITS PLANS PAY BETWEEN 50-90% OF MY FEE.

At times insurance plans request upfront billing codes SBCS will be using.  You can share this list of codes for their approval:

  • 90791  Psychiatric Diagnostic Assessment (from 1-4 sessions depending on the problem)

  • 90834 Psychotherapy, 45 minutes

  • 90847  Family Psychotherapy, conjoint psychotherapy with patient present

  • 90846 Family Psychotherapy, without patient present

  • 90887 Collateral visit

When using OON Benefits, SBCS will provide you with a document monthly called a "superbill" which is like an invoice but contains the service codes, dates of treatment, and monies paid during therapy. You would submit this to your plan directly and your plan would reimburse you directly as well.

You can get in-network therapy if this is out of your budget. Your plan can identify providers who are in-network should you need to use your benefits.

HOW ARE MY RECORDS STORED?

Space Between Counseling Services utilizes a HIPAA compliant, encrypted, electronic medical record called Simple Practice that holds all of my client's mental health records safely in it. You will get a link to a client portal where you fill in demographic information and can access documents like invoices and superbills on your own.

Simple Practice has a credit card processing system named Stripe embedded in it.  If choosing to work with SBCS you would upload your credit card number and SBCS would tap the card after each session or late cancelation for the fee. SBCS only have access to the last 4 digits of your card and it is completely secured.

DO YOU HAVE A CANCELATION POLICY?

At Space Between Counseling Services, we have a 24- business hour cancelation policy. You will be responsible for an entire session fee of $175/275 if the change is made in less than 24 business hours' notice. Exceptions may be made for emergencies such as sudden illness or accident, at my discretion. It should be noted that insurance does not reimburse for canceled sessions and HSA and FSA cards can't be used in these cases.
