Relational psychotherapy, an approach that can help individuals recognize the role relationships play in the shaping of daily experiences, attempts to help people understand patterns appearing in the thoughts and feelings they have toward themselves.

Based on the idea that strong and fulfilling relationships with other individuals can help people maintain emotional well-being, this model may be beneficial to people seeking therapy for any number of reasons, but in particular to address long-term emotional distress, especially when distress occurs as a result of relational concerns.
— Good Therapy

As a relational therapist with eclectic tendencies.

{{ The clients I work best with are struggling within RELATIONSHIPS in some form. }}

I work with individuals + couples + polycules + groups to address:

  • Relationship Ambivalence

  • Anxiety

  • Neurodiversity / Neurodivergent Minds

  • Transitions in Life

  • Depression

  • "Stuckness"

  • Trauma

  • Relationship Counseling - Pre-Marital, Transitions, Disconnection, Poor Communication, Infidelity, Infertility & Family of Origin Issues & Blended Family Struggles

  • Polyamory and Nonmonogamous Relationships (Consensual & Ethical) -- Open, Non-Monogamous, Poly or Designer Relationships

  • Poor communication + Cycling conflict

  • Emotional Infidelity

  • Concerns specific to marginalized humans: LGBTQIAP+ community and People of Color + Sexual Minorities

I help individuals + couples + polycules + groups build awareness of thoughts, feelings + physical sensations to develop greater insight and uncover new choices in + out of relationships.

My style is nurturing, supportive & interactive -- with a huge dose of common sense.

I foster the development of safety + trust in our therapeutic relationship, so we can explore and process what may be inaccessible or overwhelming to do alone -or- in your relationship(s).

My goal as your therapist is to help you find your strength(s), heal/repair harmed parts of yourself, get comfortable in your relationship(s), and learn to live a life of meaning and purpose -- within YOURSELF & in YOUR RELATIONSHIPS.

Please reach out if you want to journey together to discover more enjoyable relationships, healing, understanding, and self-growth.

Desire to know more about Susan?

I have a passion for traveling, reflecting + spending time with my family which includes my partner, our kiddo + our urban chickens.

As a previous flight attendant, I have traveled to multiple locations around the globe + I'm passionate about anything related to India.

Of course, this travel hobby was on HOLD in COVID-19 times.

With that said, I firmly believe that travel has added to my diversity and helped equip my passion for a diverse range of individuals, as well as strengthened + informed my understanding for multiculturalism across life spans.

Using a client-centered approach + active listening, I strive to balance self-exploration with practical solutions while creating a safe + trusting environment for change to occur WHILE allowing for the creative therapy process to unfold.

Therapy is an ART based on science.

My theoretical lens has been informed by neurobiology, humanistic theories, strength-based models, trauma-informed approaches, attachment studies, sexual health practices, mindfulness approaches + experiential trainings.

I personally KNOW: Life can be filled with struggle — sometimes an overwhelming amount. With guidance, places of pain, difficulty + doubt, therapy can provide grounds for transformation + growth.

Therapeutic Focus:

{ abandonment, anxiety, AD(H)D, AuDHD (AUTISM + ADHD) | Neurodiverse Couples depression, neurodiversity / neurodivergent minds, within + among transition periods in developmental phases / situations, difficulties in relationships, LGBTQIA+ concerns, sexual health needs + within life's many hurdles + detours }

TELL ME ABOUT FEES AND INSURANCE?

Susan’s individual fee is $275 per 60-minute intake and 45-minute session; Susan’s couple’s fee is $650 per 2-3 hour intake and $425 per 90-minute follow-up session. Brainspotting fee: $425 / 90-minute session

SBCS is not paneled with any insurance plans but can offer you what's called "out-of-network benefits" (OONB). Not everyone has this as part of their benefits package, so please call your healthcare plan and ask these questions:

Do I have out-of-network benefits?
What percentage of my therapist's fee does my plan pay for?

MOST OON BENEFITS PLANS PAY BETWEEN 50-90% OF MY FEE.

At times insurance plans request upfront billing codes SBCS will be using.  You can share this list of codes for their approval:

  • 90791  Psychiatric Diagnostic Assessment (from 1-4 sessions depending on the problem)

  • 90834 Psychotherapy, 45 minutes

  • 90847  Family Psychotherapy, conjoint psychotherapy with patient present

  • 90846 Family Psychotherapy, without patient present

  • 90887 Collateral visit

When using OON Benefits, SBCS will provide you with a document monthly called a "superbill" which is like an invoice but contains the service codes, dates of treatment, and monies paid during therapy. You would submit this to your plan directly and your plan would reimburse you directly as well.

You can get in-network therapy if this is out of your budget. Your plan can identify providers who are in-network should you need to use your benefits.

HOW ARE MY RECORDS STORED?

Space Between Counseling Services utilizes a HIPAA compliant, encrypted, electronic medical record called Simple Practice that holds all of my client's mental health records safely in it. You will get a link to a client portal where you fill in demographic information and can access documents like invoices and superbills on your own.

Simple Practice has a credit card processing system named Stripe embedded in it.  If choosing to work with SBCS you would upload your credit card number and SBCS would tap the card after each session or late cancelation for the fee. SBCS only have access to the last 4 digits of your card and it is completely secured.

DO YOU HAVE A CANCELATION POLICY?

At Space Between Counseling Services, we have a 24- business hour cancelation policy. You will be responsible for an entire session fee of ($275-650) for individual/couples and ($425) for Brainspotting. If the change is made in less than 24 business hours' notice. Exceptions may be made for emergencies such as sudden illness or accident, at my discretion. It should be noted that insurance does not reimburse for canceled sessions and HSA and FSA cards can't be used in these cases.
